Carl Edwards Wins Pole for Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway
Carl Edwards kicked off his bid to win the Sprint Cup championship in strong fashion. Edwards won the pole for Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, posting a lap of 30.78 seconds. Edwards also paced the field in Happy Hour, the second of two Sprint Cup practices on Saturday. In the first practice, the driver of the No. 99 ran the second-fastest lap. Martin Truex Jr. qualified on the outside pole with a lap of 30.89 seconds. Last week's winner Kasey Kahne will start third, followed by Kurt Busch in fourth and Brad Keselowski in fifth. Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top ten starting positions. Tony Stewart, who trails Edwards by just three points in the championship standings, will roll off for Sunday's Sprint Cup season finale in the 15th starting position with a lap of 31.15 seconds.
