Danica loses lead after running over shoe

Danica Patrick led today’s NAPA Auto Parts 200 for the better part of 20 laps until she happened to run over a shoe that someone had thrown on the track. At the time it seemed to be fairly innocuous, but the shoe did actually do some damage to Danica’s steering, and she went from leading the NASCAR Nationwide tour race to sitting in 28th place with a handful of laps to go.
Fittingly, Jacques Villeneuve is the race’s current leader at the track that bears his late father’s name, but I doubt that will be any consolation to Patrick, who looked like she was in for a great, possibly wreck free day. At least she was, until she ran over that shoe.

No word on who actually threw the shoe, or why the did so, but it’s fair to say that whoever did toss a shoe on the track is not only stupid, but just plain ignorant.

Personally I think Danica is just a tad overrated, but still, to lose your lead because of a shoe on the track is really some bad luck. The ...
