Roger Penske?s sons arrested by Nantucket police

Roger Penske's sons, Jay and Mark Penske, were arrested by Nantucket police Thursday morning for an alleged break-in at the Nantucket Yacht Club after a woman accused Jay of urinating on her boots.
From the Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror:
According to a police report, the incident was reported as an assault and battery when two women approached officers on Broad Street, claiming they had been assaulted by two men, later identified as the Penske brothers.
The report claims the Penske brothers were urinating in the parking lot, and that when she confronted Jay Penske, he "turned and continued to urinate on her boots. He then proceeded to grab her arm and push her. (The woman) also states that Mark before he ran away pushed her and they both then ran to the house on Yacht Club property" the report states.
The brothers were charged with "breaking and entering in the nighttime and attempt to commit a misdemeanor." The women declined to file assault charges.
One of the women involved in the incident told the paper that Jay Penske turned and, uh, engaged his spray towards her when the women pointed him out urinating towards the sidewalk while Mark grabbed her friend's hand and hit her in the face with it as she was attempting to take a picture.
After, they ran towards the Nantucket Yacht Club property and police said they apprehended Jay trying to run away from the club and Mark inside the employee apartment with cuts on his arm after apparently falling down a staircase.
In perhaps the most bizarre part of the story, one of the women claims that Jay Penske shouted "You're not white enough" at her as he was being detained. (The race of the women was not revealed in the article.) They spent the night at the Nantucket detention facility. Their pretrial hearings are scheduled for Aug. 20.
Jay Penske is the owner of Dragon Racing in the IndyCar Series with drivers Sebastian Bourdais and Katherine Legge. Dragon now fields Chevrolets after starting the season with Lotus engines.
Report: Why new cars are more dangerous for emergency responders [w/video]

Among the best reasons to buy a new car are the safety improvements that have been made across the industry over the past decade. Yet safer cars for drivers and passengers haven't meant an improvement for first responders. On the contrary, the added complexity and new technologies employed in modern vehicles routinely frustrate firefighters attempting to save occupants involved in a crash.
According to USA Today, part of the problem facing rescuers is just knowing what hazards might be lurking beneath the sheetmetal. From high-strength steel that's difficult to cut to airbags hidden in every nook and cranny, rescuers face not just frustration, but real danger. Like high-voltage systems in hybrids and electric cars, some of which can be difficult to tell apart from conventional models, according to the report.
To complicate all of this, firefighters are often left in the dark by automakers, and when they do get to practice on vehicles, often those are older models. But things are changing, as industry groups, including the Society of Automotive Engineers, are working on addressing some of these new challenges. The engineering group is close to recommending a new standardized labeling system for electrified vehicles, according to the report.

RCR minority partner exploring sale of equity in team
Richard Childress Racing announced Monday that Chartwell Enterprises, which became a minority partner in the team in 2003, is exploring the sale of its interest in the team.
"Since 2003, I have had a minority partner at RCR in Chartwell Investments," Richard Childress said in a release. "Like any private equity business, Chartwell has a duty to its investors to return capital and maximize profits in a reasonable timeframe. With my support, they have determined that now is an appropriate time to exit their investment in RCR. Chartwell has been a great partner and I will always be appreciative of our partnership. We will remain good friends."
"We have informed the key people and sponsors of RCR about Chartwell's decision and assured them this will have no impact on the current affairs at RCR or our continued vision for strong performance on and off the track. We have advised them that if a new investor comes on board as RCR's new partner they will be strategically chosen to help RCR continue to grow. Our family of corporate partners has all been very appreciative of our letting them know and remain committed to moving forward. I love what I do and plan to be involved in NASCAR and in running RCR for many years to come."
Richard Childress Racing fields teams for Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick and Paul Menard in the Sprint Cup Series, Austin Dillon and Elliott Sadler and a third car in the Nationwide Series and for Joey Coulter and Ty Dillon in the Camping World Truck Series. While Harvick is currently in the top 10 in the Cup points standings through the first 19 races of the season, RCR hasn't been to victory lane. After buying the assets of Kevin Harvick Inc. at the end of last season, RCR has flourished in the Nationwide Series this year, where Dillon and Sadler have combined for three wins and are 1-2 in the points standings.
Many major Sprint Cup teams have partnered with investment firms in recent years. Robb Kauffman became a partner in Michael Waltrip Racing in 2007, Roush Racing joined with Fenway Sports Group that same year and after the partnership with George Gillett went sour at what's now Richard Petty Motorsports, Petty joined with DGB Investments and Medallion Financial to buy out Gillett in 2010.
Now that Chartwell is exploring a sale, it's a good time to ask: is there anyone out there with a lot of cash that wants to make the From The Marbles car dream come true?

VIDEO: Austin Dillon clips tire on pit road in Indy Nationwide race
Some tire backspin saved a potentially hazardous situation in the pits during Saturday's Nationwide race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
A tire got away from Johanna Long's pit stall, and Austin Dillon, who was driving past, slid and swerved to try to avoid it on Indy's narrow pit road. He just nicked it, but that sent the tire off of the outside pit lane retaining wall.
At a lot of other bigger tracks, the tire would have harmlessly bounced towards the infield, but since the Indianapolis pit lane is sandwiched between two concrete walls, the tire ricocheted back towards crews making pit stops. But just like a PGA pro's wedge shot, the tire thankfully checked up as soon as it landed back in the middle of pit lane and came to a stop.

Rain Shortened NASCAR Race Sees Lightning That Kills One & Injured 9 Others
Two people were taken to hospitals in critical condition after the strike, racetrack officials said. President Brandon Igdalsky said one of them later died at Pocono Medical Center, but he provided no further details. The race was called because of storms, with 98 of the 160 scheduled laps completed. The track posted warnings on its Twitter page to more than 22,000 followers near the end of the race encouraging fans to “seek shelter as severe lightning and heavy winds are in our area.”

Chad Norris to take over as crew chief for Carl Edwards

Carl Edwards will have a new crew chief for the rest of 2012.
Bob Osborne, Edwards' crew chief for all but 27 races of his Sprint Cup Series career, is stepping down from his post atop the No. 99 pit box for medical reasons. Chad Norris will become Edwards' crew chief.
"I have had the pleasure of working with Carl Edwards for the past nine years and, during that time, my focus has been building a championship-caliber program," Osborne said in a release. "I'm proud of the 18 wins we've had together in Sprint Cup Series competition and our two second-place points finishes.
"At this time in my life, however, concerns with my health have necessitated that I change my role within the organization," Osborne added. "This transition is not an easy one, but I'm thankful to have the full support of Jack [Roush], Carl and the entire organization. I also have every confidence in Chad Norris, and I look forward to working with him as we continue to pursue a championship in 2012. I also appreciate the privacy and respect that the community will give me and my family during this difficult time."
[Power Rankings: When in doubt go with Jimmie Johnson]
Osborne will remain with Roush as a senior member of the company's management team and steering committee. Norris has been with Roush Fenway since 2005 and was in charge of Roush's R&D team and was the crew chief for Ricky Stenhouse in the Daytona 500.
Edwards, who finished second to Tony Stewart in last year's Chase, is currently in 11th place in the Sprint Cup points standings ?46 points behind 10th place Brad Keselowski. However, Edwards is currently sitting outside the Chase at the moment with zero wins. His last win was at Las Vegas back in March of 2011. Stewart and Edwards were tied in the points column at the end of last season, but Stewart had five wins to Edwards' one.

Following a 20th-place finish at Kentucky in which Edwards had to stop late for fuel, Edwards backed Osborne, calling him the best crew chief in the business and urged his team to stick together.
"I cannot say enough good things about Bob Osborne," Edwards said in a statement. "I'm so thankful for what he's done for me as a driver, and he is without a doubt one of the smartest guys in the sport. I'm also appreciative of the fact that he'll continue to be a resource for me and our team as we focus on these final races. We're very fortunate to have Chad Norris as part of our organization to take over for the No. 99. I've known Chad for a long time and he is a fierce competitor. We've got our work cut out for us over the next seven races, and I've got every confidence Chad can lead our team to where we need to be."
Will Norris be the spark that Edwards needs over the final seven races to snag a wild card or move into the top 10?

Allmendinger?s business manager says he tested positive for amphetamines

AJ Allmendinger's business manager said Wednesday that the driver tested positive for amphetamines, however, they were unsure of what the amphetamine exactly was.
Allmendinger's business manager, Tara Ragan, confirmed multiple media reports Wednesday that an amphetamine triggered the positive test. Ragan said Allmendinger was waiting for additional data from the laboratory that might help identify the source of the amphetamine.
''What is it, exactly? That, we still don't know,'' Ragan said.
NASCAR spokesman David Higdon said on SPEED's Race Hub Wednesday night that it was protocol to inform Allmendinger of the specific substance. Allmendinger was suspended indefinitely from NASCAR Tuesday after his 'B' sample corroborated with the positive drug test of his 'A' sample after the Kentucky race on June 30.
"Actually, specific substance, not stimulant, that is something that they said. We don't reveal the actual substance," Higdon said. "But it's part of the protocol that's outlined in our rulebook, the medical review officer does in fact inform the competitor of the exact substance that he or she has tested positive for. That information is also conveyed to NASCAR."
Well then, that's interesting, isn't it? Penske Racing President Tim Cindric said that the team hasn't been notified of the specifics, saying that all the team knows is what's been released by Allmendinger's camp publicly.
Earlier Wednesday, Ragan confirmed that Allmendinger would be entering NASCAR's Road to Recovery Program immediately in an attempt to return to the track as fast as possible. Given the likely timeline of the program ? generally five months or so ? it's doubtful that Allmendinger will be eligible to compete before the end of the season. Sam Hornish is scheduled to be in the car on Sunday at Indianapolis and the following weekend at Pocono.
