Paris: 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design leaves us feeling blue in Paris
Filed under: Performance, Europe, Paris Motor Show, Hatchback, Volvo, Design/Style, Luxury

We were more than a little bummed when Volvo proclaimed it didn't intend to bless the United States with its V40 hatchback/wagon. We're even more bummed now that there's this newly debuted R Design model at the Paris Motor Show.
Even though the most powerful engine remains the same 254-horsepower turbo five cylinder (a 115-horsepower diesel engine is also on offer), there are a number of worthwhile updates to the R Design over the standard V40. A reworked front fascia, rear diffuser, twin exhaust and five-spoke diamond-cut wheels in either 17- or 18-inch sizes add some spice to the car's already attractive shape.
If that's not enough, buyers can opt for the R Design Lux package to enjoy an embossed leather interior along with other high-end bits and pieces. There are also blue accents crowning the dash and its three switchable treatments - Elegance, Eco and Performance.
Perhaps most intriguingly, though, Volvo is offering a suspension package that's been tuned by Swedish racing driver Robert Dahlgren. The chassis sits 10mm lower than stock, with firmer springs and shocks, uprated struts, monotube dampers and thicker antiroll bars. Yep, we wish we could get our hands on one of these in the States... And while we're wishing, how about a Polestar update, too?
In any case, feel free to peruse the press release below and check out our high-res Rebel Blue image gallery above.

Video: Dale Earnhardt Jr. talks about decision to part ways with Eurys
On Friday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. spoke publicly for the first time since the decision earlier in the week to replace Tony Eury Jr. as Danica Patrick's crew chief at JR Motorsports. A week earlier, the team parted ways with Tony Eury Sr.
Junior said that the decision to part ways with Eury Jr. ? an original partner in JR Motorsports ? was a mutual one. He also said that his plan for JRM for 2013 would be two full-time cars running for the title and then himself in a car for 3-5 races. To hear Junior's comments directly from the source, give the play button a push.

Mitt Romney will be at the Richmond race on Saturday night

-Follow Jay Busbee on Twitter at @jaybusbee.-
Presidential politics comes to NASCAR again as Mitt Romney's campaign has announced he'll make an appearance at the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond. Romney's exact role in the race is yet to be determined (though it's unlikely he'll be racing for a Chase berth).
[What to watch for: Federated Auto Parts 400]
It's the latest in a long line of NASCAR-presidency connections; NASCAR is, of course, historically a home game for most Republican candidates. Romney also visited the Daytona 500 earlier this season; read on for a few photos from that day.
First, Romney met with Jimmie Johnson to discuss policy:

Next, Romney and John Cena traded takedown tips:

And finally, this awesome shot of Romney and Lenny Kravitz trying to decide whether to go handshake, fist-bump or bro-hug:

Di Resta laments safety car timing
VIDEO: Foam goes everywhere when Timmy Hill and Sam Hornish Jr. collide
Sam Hornish Jr.'s Nationwide Series championship hopes took a hit Friday night at Richmond, and so did the protective foam on the right side of Timmy Hill's car.
Hornish was racing for position with Justin Allgaier and Ty Dillon and was frustrated with Allgaier moving low to protect his position on the backstretch. That allowed Dillon to try to go around both drivers on the high side in turns three and four, but Dillon scraped the wall doing so.
When Dillon hit the wall, Hornish had nowhere to go, and the contact between the two cut down Hornish's right front tire. Hornish lost control of his car in turn one, and slid into the outside wall.
As he was sliding down the track, Hill couldn't get close enough to the inside line to avoid him and sideswiped the rear end of Hornish's car. The impact sheared the right side of Hill's car like a can opener, ripping the foam on the inside of the sheet metal to shreds and throwing pieces all over the track. The red flag had to be displayed for the cleanup of the foam.
Kevin Harvick won the race and Ricky Stenhouse closed within one point of Elliott Sadler for the points lead. Hornish is 50 points behind Sadler in fourth.

No es bueno for Denny Hamlin in new ESPN ad
Time again for a new ESPN "winners" ad. So far, with Jimmie Johnson ("so long, pricklebear"), Brad Keselowski (the Thanksgiving nap) and Carl Edwards (cannibalism!), these ads have been strong, and this one's no exception. We can see a couple catchphrases in here; Hamlin can look forward to fans shouting "Hola, seor Denny!" for the next few months. Enjoy.
