2013 Toyota RAV4 Photos and Info: No V-6, Kind of Weird-Looking, Modern Transmission

The old RAV4 was a two-time comparison-test champ, so you know we liked it, but it had exactly one thrilling characteristic: The totally bitchin?, un-crossover-like gusto provided by the optional V-6. (Seriously. Zero to 60 in 6.4 seconds.) But now that?s gone, as the new, fourth-generation 2013 Toyota RAV4 will amble through suburbia exclusively on [...]

Storied NASCAR driver Kimi Raikkonen wins Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

And they said it couldn't be done.

No one could go to NASCAR, conquer it with the force of a thousand suns, and then return to Formula 1 and win again. Well, Kimi Raikkonen has done it.

Raikkonen won Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for his first Formula 1 win since he jaunted over to NASCAR in 2011, and his first win in the series since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix. It was the first F1 win for Lotus this year as well, and Raikkonen became the eighth different F1 driver to win a race this year after the first seven races featured seven different winners.

And if you're scrambling to look up the exact numbers of Kimi's NASCAR dominance to quiz your friends today, we've got you covered. Last year, Raikkonen entered two events (both sponsored by NASCAR mainstay Perky Jerky), where he finished 15th at the Charlotte Truck Series race for Kyle Busch Motorsports and 27th in the Charlotte Nationwide race driving Joe Nemechek's No. 87 with equipment from KBM.

So you can see why NASCAR was so easy for Kimi. And now, it looks like Formula 1 is too. What could be next?

Danica Patrick wrecks herself crashing Landon Cassill

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Danica Patrick was frustrated with Landon Cassill. However, as she drove into turn one on Cassill's rear bumper on lap 155 of Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, she got the worse end of the accident.

Patrick entered the corner with her front fender on Cassill's rear bumper, and maintained the contact through the turn while moving him up the track. Her message was delivered, as Cassill's car went into a spin. But Patrick's did too, and when she went to straighten her car out in turn 2, she ended up sliding back up the track and slamming into the wall.

"I have just been really frustrated with the No. 83," Patrick said after getting out of her car. "He slammed into me on the front straight for no other reason than his radio communication 'She was in the way.' I've always played fair. If it's one time, I can imagine frustration. But it's been pretty consistent with him getting in to me. So at some point in time, I have to stand up for myself, or everybody's going to do it. So, the bummer is that this is my Texas car. We were having a good run, we were making the car better. And, I'm out of the race and he's not."

Her crew chief, Stewart-Haas Racing competition director Greg Zipadelli was not amused with Patrick's attempt at retaliation, telling her, according to the ESPN broadcast that "You know better than to do that."

Before crashing Cassill, Patrick was inside the top 20 and on the lead lap in her eighth Sprint Cup Series start of the season before she moves full time to the series in 2013. But because of the damange, she finished 32nd. Cassill was able to keep going. He finished 18th.

"My situation with [Cassill] is really a product of frustration," Patrick said. "He got into me on the front straight and said I was just in the way. That's really no good reason to hit me. If it's one time, I can imagine it's frustration, but it's been quite a few times with him. At some point I have to stand up for myself so this doesn't happen with other people. I chose today. The bummer about it is that my car is out, and he's still out there going, so I've got to work on how to do that."

Chase Watch: Brad Keselowski is now in, uh, the driver?s seat

And then there was ... one? Not quite, but the championship picture cleared up considerably on Sunday at Phoenix.

All day long, Brad Keselowski had a better car than Jimmie Johnson, and better strategy as well, sneaking up to grab a lap-led bonus during pit stops while Johnson was unable to do the same. And for much of the afternoon, it looked like we'd go into Homestead with the two leaders virtually tied; shades of 2011, when Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards were in the same spot.

And then came lap 236. Several cars had been having right-front tire issues, a side effect of increased breaking and increased tension on that tire. And at the worst possible time, Johnson's tire gave out. He hit the wall hard enough to cause damage to his vehicle, and had to go behind the wall for more than 30 laps. By then, Keselowski had avoided enough drama to end up in sixth place

Who's up? Keselowski now takes a 20-point lead into the season's final race. "Certainly if you have the choice you always want to be in the lead of the points, especially in the closing races, so I'm thankful for that," Keselowski said. "But I also know that the troubles that they had are the same troubles that we could have next week, and so you try not to take anything for granted."

Who's down? Johnson is in trouble now. "It's way, way out of our control after the problem we had today," he said. "We still have to go to Homestead and race, and anything can happen down there. But not the position you want to be in leaving Phoenix." Of note: in 2010, Johnson was 15 points behind Denny Hamlin and came back to catch him. He's only five points behind that figure now.

Who's out? Jeff Gordon effectively eliminated Clint Bowyer from any championship possibility, which is a shame because at the time, Bowyer was only a handful of points behind Johnson. Trouble with the 2 in Homestead, and Bowyer could have been right back in it. So, yes, everyone south of Johnson is mathematically eliminated.

What's next? One race left. Even if Johnson wins and leads the most laps, Keselowski still only needs to finish no worse than 15th to win the championship. Aggression or prevent defense? It'll be a fascinating test to see how he handles the challenge.

Defeated Alonso hails best season yet

Fernando Alonso labelled his and Ferrari's 2012 Formula 1 efforts as perfect despite losing out to Sebastian Vettel in the championship battle after a thrilling Brazilian Grand Prix. The Spaniard went into the season finale 13 points behind Vettel and, during some stages of the race, Alonso was in a situation that would have allowed him to clinch his third title. In the end, however, Alonso came in second and Vettel was sixth, a result that gave the Red Bull driver his third title by three points.

Chase Watch: OK, now it?s a two-man race. Promise.

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The two-man battle that emerged over the final laps of Sunday's AAA Texas 500 left two others in the dust. And little doubt that this pursuit of the 2012 Sprint Cup Series championship is a race between Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski and no one else.

Clint Bowyer entered Sunday's race third in the points standings, 26 points behind Jimmie Johnson. And in NASCAR nomenclature, he had a "good points day," running in the top five for most of the day and finishing sixth. But because Johnson and Keselowski were 1-2, he now trails by 36 points with two races to go in his first season with Michael Waltrip Racing.

"I've said this all along -- it's fun to be racing for the championship, but I'm more proud of where we're at contending for that championship, winning three races our first year together as a group," Bowyer said. "Got a long time to work. We just keep polishing the edges and keep getting better fixing our program week in and week out. We'll be there."

And unfortunately for Bowyer, it's not going to be this year. The same goes for Kasey Kahne, who, much like Bowyer, ran near the front of the field all day. But after contact with Jeff Gordon on lap 321, Kahne cut down a left-rear tire that exploded in turns one and two on lap 322 and brought out a caution.

Kahne entered the race 29 points behind Johnson. Thanks to repairs for the damage, he finished 25th. He's now 58 points back.

Who's up? Matt Kenseth, who finished fourth and jumped to fifth in the points standings from eighth. If it wasn't for two horrible races to start the Chase, Flatline would be right in the midst of this thing.

Who's down? This is a tie between Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr., who each fell two spots in the standings. It was especially surprising for both, given how well they've performed at Texas in the past. Truex finished 13th. Hamlin finished 20th.

Who's out? Are you named Jimmie Johnson or Brad Keselowski? No. OK, then you are.

VIDEO: Ricky Stenhouse wins Kansas Nationwide race in hectic fuel mileage finish

Kyle Busch was oh-so-close to getting his first Nationwide Series victory for his own Kyle Busch Motorsports team on Saturday afternoon at Kansas Speedway.

After the race was extended because of a late crash, many cars near the front of the field were pushing the limits of their fuel tanks. Busch was one of them, and it looked like he was going to grab that first win as he led Ricky Stenhouse to the line as the white flag waved.

However, Busch started to wiggle his car back and forth on the backstretch of the final lap, and in turn 3, his car ran dry, allowing Stenhouse to pass him for the race win.

Saturday's race featured 12 cautions, including one when Stenhouse made contact with Joey Logano. Will we see that type of action on Sunday? We'll find out soon.

Carl Edwards' 2013 Season May Be Most Important Season Yet

If you look at Roush-Fenway Racing for the 2013 season it is clear the organization has taken a hit. They have lost perhaps their most steady driver in Matt Kenseth, who is leaving for Joe Gibbs Racing.
Kenseth's departure leaves a big void in the organization. His #17 Ford will be driven by rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr in 2013, the two time reining NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion. Stenhouse is a nice driver but he is a rookie. He may be able to fill Kenseth's shoes but it may take a year or two. Can Ricky Stenhouse Jr really make the Chase in 2013?
The last time we've seen a rookie driver make the chase was Denny Hamlin back in the 2006 season. Matt Kenseth's #17 team from 2012 will move to Carl Edwards' #99 car for 2013. Official: 2013 Chrysler Town and Country S is the van in black

2013 Chrysler Town and Country S - front three-quarter view, black

Chrysler previously brought us the "man van" with the Dodge Grand Caravan R/T, but now it's apparently rolling out its its "mean van," with this sinister 2013 Town and Country S. Joining similar packages available on the 200 and 300 sedans, this new Town and Country trim replaces most of the standard car's shiny bits with dark accents, giving the minivan a more unique appearance.

The S trim level brings with it things like a black chrome grille, black-accented wheels and blacked-out headlight inserts, and it will only be offered in limited exterior colors (black, red, white and silver); we're guessing it looks best in the more monotone, limousine-spec paint scheme as seen above. The interior has likewise been given a blacked-out treatment including a black headliner and combination leather and cloth seats. All Town and Country S models come standard with Chrysler's new Blu-Ray rear-seat entertainment system, and it also has an HDMI input and a pair of USB ports that can charge mobile devices. The S' performance modifications start and end with a firmer sport suspension setup.

No word on pricing yet for the Town and Country S or when it will go on sale, but we'll see it in person later this week at the LA Auto Show. Scroll down for Chrysler's official press release.

Brad Keselowski captures his first Sprint Cup championship

HOMESTEAD, Fla. ? Brad Keselowski's astronomically fast rise through the ranks of NASCAR is now complete. On Sunday, Keselowski completed a triumphant season by holding off Jimmie Johnson to win his first Sprint Cup championship.

Keselowski entered the season riding momentum from last year's surprise rise into a Chase wild-card spot, but it took him exactly half a race to prove he would be a center of attention all year long. While Daytona International Speedway burned as a result of a track fire, Keselowski pulled out his phone and began tweetingin the middle of the Daytona 500.Within hours, he'd gained tens of thousands of followers and given NASCAR more publicity with one tiny phone than it could get with a hundred cameras.

Throughout the rest of 2012, Keselowski also proved that he could run strong at every kind of track: short, superspeedway, cookie-cutter, road. He stared down challengers on and off the track, most notably Johnson. The five-time champion appeared primed for No. 6, and in past years he could have counted on challengers wilting in the Florida heat.

Not this time. As the Chase wore on, Keselowski shed his public, freewheeling Twitter persona in favor of a relentless focus. Johnson couldn't rattle him, either on the track or in press conferences, and that dedication and mindset paid off in a championship.

"I saw this really cool video that Ray Lewis did and he said, 'Throughout my whole life I've been told that I'm not big enough, I'm not fast enough, I'm not strong enough and I don't have what it takes,' " Keselowski said after getting out of his car. "I've used that as a chip on my shoulder that's carried me through my whole career. It took 'til this year for me to realize, they're right. I'm not big enough, fast enough, strong enough. No person is. Only a team can do that. And these guys up here [pointing to his team], they make me big enough, fast enough, strong enough to do anything we want to do."

Despite Keselowski entering Sunday's season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway with a commanding 20-point advantage, there was a stretch of drama. Chad Knaus, Johnson's crew chief, made a gamble on fuel that would have put the No. 48 in a position to win the Ford EcoBoost 400 and potentially wrestle away the points lead from Keselowski, who would have pit twice to Johnson's once. But on Johnson's final pit stop his crew hung a lug nut, resulting in a penalty that meant his quest for No. 6 was all but over. Moments later, when smoke filled his cockpit, it was. Johnson steered his car to the garage, his engine dead, as well as his championship run.

"Pretty heartbreaking," Johnson said moments after Keselowski crossed the finish line 15th to clinch the title. "We were doing what we needed to do, certainlyin a position to put a lot of pressure on the 2 car. But that's racing."

The victory has resonance beyond Keselowski. This marks the first-ever Cup title for legendary car owner Roger Penske, and the final (for now) championship win for Dodge, which is leaving NASCAR after this year.

Over the 10 Chase races, Keselowski averaged an impressive6.3 finish. For comparison, last year Tony Stewart won with the same 6.3average finish. In other words, this wasn't a Chase that Jimmie Johnson lost with a wreck last week at Phoenix or even a blown engine in South Florida; this was a Chase that Brad Keselowski won with outstanding performances in 10 straight races.
