Poll: The Hunt for the Worst Intersection in America Continues
Earlier this week we looked atthe intersection ofRoute 355 and Shady Grove Road near Rockville, Maryland, flagged by Ben Ross atGreater Greater Washingtonfor being especially hostile to pedestrians, even though it’s the site of a bus stop. We asked if it might be the worst intersection in the country and put out a [...]

Man shoots collection of Dale Earnhardt memorabilia after death of pet snake
A man in Denver, NC said he was so distraught over the death of his 17 year old pet snake that he shot the cabinet that contained his Dale Earnhardt collection.
How the snake died, however, is up for debate. Gary Wayne Ericcson says he shot the snake after it was dead, however, he was arrested Sunday and charged with killing it himself.
Gary Wayne Ericcson, 46, was arrested Sunday on multiple charges, including cruelty to animals, after the shooting at his home. He was released from custody after posting a $20,000 bond.
But Ericcson says the snake, which he said was named Anonymous, had died before the shooting.
He told NBC Charlotte that he couldn't bury the snake because "the other animals would get him." Ericcson said that he and his wife can't have children, so their pets, which include two cats and a dog, are their children.
There has been no word on the status of his Earnhardt collection.

2012 season in the rear view: Paul Menard

Vitals: 16th in the points standings. 0 wins, 1 top 5, 9 top 10s, 1 DNF.
Moment to remember: Menard's lone top five of the season came at newly repaved Kansas Speedway, where he finished third, the highest finishing Chaser of the race and led six laps. It was crew chief Slugger Labbe's first race back from a suspension after Menard's car was found to have altered framerails after the August Michigan race. In that race, Menard finished 9th.
Moment to forget: With one DNF, it seems pretty easy to pinpoint, right? Well, we won't go with it. That DNF came in the fall race at Talladega, when Menard was caught up in that mass of sheetmetal with almost everyone else on the final lap and finished 28th. That was his second lowest finish of the season.
For the forgettable moments, we'll say both Phoenix races. His worst finish of the season came in the first Phoenix race when he finished 31st and in the second race there he was caught up in that final lap carnage and ended up with Danica Patrick's car on top of his hood for a brief second.
The wrap: Menard's post-race comments after that third place finish at Kansas summed up his season quite nicely.
"This year we've lacked speed overall week?to?week. Last year we qualified really well, had a lot of good speed, but very inconsistent results." Menard said.
"This year RCR as a whole has kind of lacked speed. We found some things in the last month or two that's helped us pick up just overall speed. Then our consistency this year we've had, even though we haven't been as fast, we've been more consistent. This is just one of the weekends where we put it all together."
When your two lowest finishes on the season are 28th and 31st, you know you're doing pretty well. However, Menard didn't have many of those weekends where his team put it all together, and that's why he was never really considered a true Chase threat despite being mathematically alive up until Richmond.

Time To Panic? Earnhardt Jr. Currently Sponsorless For 13 Races
By: Toby Christie ? Follow on Twitter @Tobalical
Batten down the hatches, sound the alarms, raise the white flag. NASCAR?s most popular driver is currently sponsorless for 13 races this season, and if a sponsor isn?t found and signed before the summer months the No. 88 Chevrolet may be a blank billboard at some point in 2013.
Obviously I am being sarcastic. Don?t believe even for a second that Dale Earnhardt Jr. (10-time most popular driver) and Hendrick Motorsports (10-time Sprint Cup Series championships) will live with the embarrassment of a blank race car. In the offseason Pepsi Co. decided to decrease the amount of races they would spend on the side of Earnhardt?s car, this left a gap of 13 races that have yet to be filled, but it?s not really a case of Hendrick and company not being able to find a sponsor, it?...

Report: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut
Filed under: Convertible, Performance, Geneva Motor Show, Europe, Chevrolet, GM

While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible.
If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York. But according to Autoweek, GM is looking to boost export sales of its halo car, and since the C7 was engineered to compete with the world's best and brightest, showing it off in Geneva is somewhat of a smart move. What's more, those with sharp memories will recall that GM used the Geneva expo to debut the sixth-generation C6 Corvette convertible back in March 2004, so there's also a precedent.
Details surrounding the Corvette Stingray convertible are still slim, though we fully expect the 6.2-liter V8 and choice of either six-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmissions to carry over unchanged. Prototypes spotted on the road showed the car fitted with a cloth convertible roof, as well.
The C7 Corvette Stingray coupe is expected to go into production in August, and Autoweek estimates production of the convertible to follow about three months later. The Geneva Motor Show kicks off on March 5, 2013, so stay tuned to this space for more information closer to that time.

2012 season in the rear view: Aric Almirola

Vitals: 20th in the points standings. o wins, 1 top 5, 4 top 10s. 3 DNFs.
Moment to remember: After Richard Petty Motorsports swapped crew chiefs for the final 10 races of the season, Almirola's performance improved after three straight finishes of 26th or worse over the final three races before the Chase.
During the Chase with Todd Parrott as his crew chief, Almirola finished in the top 20 eight times, including a fourth place effort at Martinsville. That wasn't his best performance, though. However, it's in the next section.
Moment to forget: Almirola was dominant in the early stages of the fall Kansas race, leading 69 laps. But then he brushed the wall and was plagued by right front tire problems, problems that were his eventual demise when he smashed the outside wall.
Vitals: Doesn't it seem like Aric Almirola has been around the Cup Series forever? Almirola's been racing in NASCAR's top series since 2007, but has competed in 71 races, just one short of two full seasons. Kind of hard to believe, isn't it?
Almirola proved that he could run up front at Kansas, and qualified in the top five at both Phoenix and Homestead. It'll take a significant leap (or two) for Almirola to be a Chase contender in 2013, but we may look back in a few years and view his performance in the final 10 races as a precursor of things to come.

Spy Shots: US-bound Audi A3 Sedan spied testing
Filed under: Spy Photos, Sedan, Audi

As the Audi A3 sedan gets closer to its debut, Audi has camouflaged prototypes to take it on the streets for final testing. Last time we saw the A3, it was testing almost in the buff, but it was on a closed track so our spy shooters were kept at quite a distance.
Now that the newest Audi sedan is testing on public roads, our latest batch of spy shots gives us a more detailed look at the entry-level luxury player despite the swirly camo. Except for the oversized wheels and the fancy exhaust outlets and door mirrors, the production version of the car should look almost identical to the A3 sedan concept we saw in Geneva a couple years ago. Some of the details we can see include a good-sized panoramic roof that stretches almost halfway into the rear passenger space and signature Audi LED-accented headlights and taillights.
