Sesame Street and Children?s Perception of City Life

I remember watching Sesame Street when I was a kid and noticing something different about it. There were scenes that took place entirely on the steps of a brownstone, neighbors running into each other on their way out the door. I didn’t fully understand it, but it was intriguing and memorable. There was something about [...]

NTS Motorsports releases veteran Ron Hornaday; Series champion deserved better

(Photo Credit:Robert Laberge/NASCAR via Getty Images)
With all due respect, the brass at NTS Motorsports need to have their heads examined. Literally ten minutes before Friday?s Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix, the team informed Ron Hornaday Jr. that they were parting ways with the winningest driver in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series history at the conclusion of the race.
SAVE $50 ON YOUR WALLHAULERS PURCHASE BY USING THE PROMO CODE: Sick AT CHECKOUT!!
Hornaday insists that he and the team have parted ways on good terms, but you sense some bitterness in his take on what happened.
?We left on good terms,? Hornaday said. ?If you don?t want me there I don?t want to be there. We shook hands. We?ll go on.?
The move to go on without Hornaday is baffling. The four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion has helped the team, which was running only it?s second season in the Camping World Truck Series, grow tremendously in the short time he had been on the roster.
The organization as a wh...

Chad Knaus says that Matt Kenseth is ?a little more formidable? opponent than Brad Keselowski was last year

With two races to go, Jimmie Johnson has a seven point lead over Matt Kenseth after winning Sunday's AAA 500 at Texas. Last year, after winning this same race, Johnson had the same points lead, though it was over Brad Keselowski.

Johnson's crew chief, Chad Knaus, says that this year's opponent presents a stronger challenge than last year's champion.

"I think we were in great shape last year," Knaus said after Johnson's win Sunday. "I think we're in as good or maybe just a pinch better shape this year, though I do feel the opponent is a little more formidable than what we had last year."

Well then. By now, you know what happened last year. Johnson cut a tire and crashed at Phoenix and Keselowski won the title. Something similar could very well happen this year too. So why does Knaus feel that way about Kenseth?

"I think Matt just from his personality standpoint is a little more controlled," Knaus said. "He's a little more mature. He's been in the sport for a long time. I think he's just a little more even keel, so that makes him a little more challenging to get off kilter, off rocker, so we'll have to see how it shakes out come Phoenix."

Not only is that in reference to Keselowski's makeup -- he's one of the most outspoken and opinionated drivers in the garage -- but it also could be about the performance of Keselowski and team this year. The defending champion missed the Chase this season and scored his first victory of the year at Charlotte in October.

It's also a return of serve (though was the game still continuing?) in a back-and-forth between the two teams that began last year as Keselowski was pursuing Johnson. Keselowski brought up the rear suspension setups of the Hendrick cars in August of 2012, saying that his team erred on the safe side as to not potentially get a penalty.

So you can imagine the schadenfreude that Knaus likely felt when the Penske cars got a 25 point penalty for unapproved rear-end parts in April at Texas.

And hey, we've got no problem with what Knaus said Sunday. A little rivalry -- even if it's not even simmering currently because of circumstances -- is great. While Kenseth and Johnson may be going-toe-to-toe this year and making fun comments, they're both friends. There's not that vibe between the No. 48 and No. 2 teams.

Danica Patrick?s day ended without completing a half a lap Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Danica Patrick can relate to many a Formula 1 driver after her day Sunday at Kansas.

In F1, a driver or two regularly doesn't make it through the first turn of a race because of a crash in the first corner. That happened to Patrick on Sunday, when her car was totaled after she spun and hit the wall in turn one on the first lap.

"I knew that going into the race based on practice and everything we've seen from practice in Cup to the Nationwide race, that losing grip was going to be not that hard to do," Patrick said. "And so I said that before the race even, I said 'make sure that we're on top of who is on my door and who is behind me.' And I knew all that was going to be happening on the start."

Patrick was referencing the 60 degree temperatures in Kansas City and the variable it provided with the race tires and track surface. Kansas Speedway was repaved last summer and new tracks mean smoother rides and faster speeds for drivers.

However, with the downforce generated with Sprint Cup Series cars, that also means that Goodyear, NASCAR's tire manufacturer, has a hard time creating tires that are durable enough for the loads that are applied on them and soft enough to give drivers grip. With the cool temperatures and new tire and surface, drivers didn't have much traction on the track. The race featured a track record 15 caution flags, including one for a bush fire outside turn one.

"And I had enough momentum to go to the middle because I got a run on the car in front of me but I had to wait past the start/finish line. I lifted going into turn one and all I can say is that I didn't try and do anything. I just found myself sideways in the middle of the corner and that was it."

Patrick collected David Reutimann and Cole Whitt in the incident and Kyle Busch, who started in the back of the pack after crashing in practice Saturday, also spun behind the accident. The three other drivers were able to continue while Patrick finished in 43rd and last place.
