Marciello sets GP2 practice pace
Raffaele Marciello set the fastest time in the 45-minute GP2 free practice session at Silverstone on Friday morning for Racing Engineering. The Ferrari protege was in sparkling form, recording lap after lap that kept him at the top of timing screens. He set out his stall with a 1m41.322s, before lowering it to 1m41.167s then 1m41.127s. Both of the latter times were good enough for the top spot, as his team-mate Stefano Coletti’s best effort was a 1m41.261s, before he visited the Club gravel after a big lock-up. Alexander Rossi was third fastest for Caterham, his session notable in that he was wearing the helmet of his team-mate Rio Haryanto, and for a huge spin at Becketts, from which he was lucky to escape without hitting anything.
