2014 NASCAR World Cup Group E: Can Kurt Busch advance in a tough group?

Throughout the summer we're running our second NASCAR World Cup. Will Carl Edwards repeat? Or will someone else take the title? Click here for a NASCAR World Cup explanation and a list of all the groups.

Group E: Brad Keselowski (1 win, 5th in points), Clint Bowyer (16th, 0), Paul Menard (17th, 0), Kurt Busch (27th, 1)

Michigan Matchups: Keselowski vs. Menard, Bowyer vs. Busch

Sonoma Matchups: Keselowski vs. Busch, Bowyer vs. Menard

Kentucky Matchups: Keselowski vs. Bowyer, Menard vs. Busch

You can make a convincing case that this is a tougher group than Group D. It's going to come down to Kurt Busch. And the group could come down to the matchup between Busch and Keselowski at Sonoma. Busch is a previous Sonoma winner and Keselowski has proven himself to be no slouch on road courses, though he's been better at Watkins Glen than he has been at Sonoma.

However, Keselowski could survive the group even if Busch and team are on their game at Sonoma. The Penske cars have been incredibly fast at intermediate tracks, and he's got the edge over Menard and a slight edge over Bowyer. If Bowyer beats Busch in week one and takes care of Menard at Sonoma, Keselowski vs. Bowyer could decide the group. That is, of course, completely dependent on Busch's performance. 3-0 wouldn't be any more or less surprising than 0-3.

Projected standings: Keselowski 2-1, Bowyer 2-1, Busch 1-2, Menard 1-2

Six and Change: Fully Documented, ?First Batch? 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Z06 Headed to Auction

By the time the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray was ready for launch, engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov had already spent a fair amount of time laying the groundwork for what would come to be known as the Z06 package, which created track-ready weapons with a factory pedigree. Duntov made sure the first batch of six cars went […]

Ginetta to build LMP3 cars with Juno

British manufacturer Ginetta will build cars for the cost-capped LMP3 formula set to be introduced next season. Marque chief Lawrence Tomlinson has purchased the Juno Racing Cars firm set up by ex-Williams Formula 1 employee Ewan Baldry, who has joined Ginetta as its new technical director as part of the takeover. The sports-prototype and Formula Ford constructor’s existing operations have already been relocated to Ginetta’s Yorkshire base, where the 420bhp ORECA-powered Ginetta-Juno LMP3 will be built. Further details of the car will be announced when the Automobile Club de l’Ouest finalises its engine and gearbox configurations, with mandatory composite monocoques the only current confirmation. It is hoped that as many as six Ginetta-Junos will be built for next year, when LMP3 will replace the unsuccessful single-make LMPC class in the [...]

Mercedes, DVAG continue sponsoring Michael Schumacher [UPDATE]

Monaco F1 GP Auto Racing

Up until his tragic accident that left him in a coma, Michael Schumacher was still one of the highest-paid Formula One drivers in the world... even though he was no longer actively competing. That came down to the numerous lucrative personal sponsorship arrangements that the seven-time world champion retained even after retirement. But while some of his sponsors have been canceling their arrangements with Michael as he fights to recover, Mercedes is reportedly committed to standing by its former driver and brand ambassador.

Speaking with German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche said "We have given no thoughts to changing something in his contract," wishing the retired F1 driver the best of luck in his recovery.

By way of contrast, bottled water brand Rosbacher reportedly canceled its sponsorship contract with Schumacher in June.

UPDATE: When reached for comment, German investment company Deutsche Vermögensberatung AG, whose logo has long adorned Schumacher's hat, told Autoblog that "At the moment, the health of Michael Schumacher is ranked first.... We back Michael Schumacher and his family and wish them all the imaginable energy they need for the next months."

One of Brad Keselowski's truck crew members hitched a ride at Kentucky

Brad Keselowski's truck needed an adjustment during a pit stop in Thursday night's Camping World Truck Series race at Kentucky. And the adjustment ended up giving one of his crew members an unexpected ride.

The track bar wrench got stuck in the back windshield of Keselowski's truck and the crew member futily tried to remove it as Keselowski pulled away.

Thankfully he let go ? could you imagine the penalty for "taking a crew member down pit road and out on the race track?" ? and there was no report of injury on the Fox Sports 1 broadcast. However, Keselowski had to go to the tail-end of field on the restart for taking the wrench with him out of the pit box.

Kyle Busch won the race. Keselowski was fifth.
